The house

A centuries-old residence, carefully brought back

Las Nubes sits at the edge of Montemagno, where the last houses of the village give way to open vineyard. The building is centuries old; the two suites inside it are not. They were restored from the brick outward using the best materials we could find, keeping the barrel-vaulted ceilings and exposed arches that give the rooms their proportions, and adding everything a modern stay needs.

Each suite is a self-contained one-bedroom apartment with its own kitchen, washing machine, and a full bathroom with shower and bidet. A pull-out bed in the living room doubles the sleeping capacity. Take one, or take both — they sit one above the other in the same house, which makes them work well for two families travelling together.

Montemagno from the air: tiled rooftops packed along the ridge with vineyards and fields all around
Montemagno dall’alto The whole village fits on one ridge — and the house sits at the end of it, where the roofs give way to vines.

Dinner in the cantina

Below the house is a classic Piedmont cantina — an arched brick cellar, cool in summer, with a wood-fired stove and a long table. It seats ten to fifteen, and guests tell us it is the part of the stay they remember most: a slow evening, local wine, no hurry to be anywhere.

Available by separate reservation. Ask us when you book.

What guests tell us

The description and the pictures simply do not do this place justice. Imagine living in a fairytale, with fresh local pasta, coffee, wine, a castle with breathtaking views, wineries as far as the eye can see across rolling hills — except that this is not a fairytale.

You wake up to a magnificent view of the Alps as a backdrop to vineyards and a winery on the next hilltop. An easy stroll to a couple of coffee shops to start the day with a brioche and cappuccino.

BruceAirbnb guest · May 2023

The home is peaceful and beautifully situated with hilltop and mountain views that pictures do not do justice. One of the highlights was watching a local tamburello match in the village, something I had never seen before.

ChelsieSeattle, Washington · June 2025

My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary in this special nook of Italy. Sunsets on the terrace were a highlight, followed by walks to delicious food and drink. Montemagno may not be widely known but it holds treasures.

Extremely responsive hosts — always quickly answered questions. The apartment was impeccably clean. The view is amazing. Excellent spot to explore the area.

Wish we could have stayed for a month! Our hosts welcomed us as friends. Our days were full of beautiful scenery, delicious food and drink and stimulating conversations.

Want the local feel of a walk to town and an espresso with a friendly hello? Want to hike the sunflower fields, vineyards and wheat fields where no one bothers you? Plan on a quiet stay. Slow down. Just be.

MichaelWatsonville, California · July 2022

This is a jewel in the less travelled areas of Italy. Relaxing, beautiful, quiet, perfect for a wine country exploration on our anniversary. A view of heaven out every window.

Where you are

Monferrato, and everything within reach of it

Montemagno rises on a ridge in the Monferrato, the wine country UNESCO listed in 2014 for its long history of vine growing. The medieval castle, the alleyways and the fortified walls are still in daily use. The piazza carries a weekly market, local sport, and whatever the village happens to be celebrating.

This is where the Slow Food movement began, and Piedmont produces more of Italy's DOCG wines than any other region. Ruchè is the local speciality, grown on the hills you can see from the windows. You do not need a plan; driving in any direction is most of the pleasure.

  • Asti 15 minutes Moscato d'Asti, and the September Palio
  • Alba 30 minutes the annual White Truffle festival
  • Barolo 45 minutes the wine of kings
